Segovia (local guide)
Segovia is Spain and Castile at its
best - twisting alleyways, the
highest concentration of Romanesque
churches in all of Europe,
pedestrian streets where no cars are
allowed, the aroma of roast suckling

wall which itself is bordered by two
rivers and an extensive green-belt

legacy in the form of churches,
palaces, fortresses, mosques and
synagogues.

ordered construction of "San Lorenzo
de El Escorial" after winning the
Battle of St. Quentin on August 10,
1557 (Saint Lawrence’s day), and as
a way of thanking God for his
victory over the French. The
Valley of the Fallen is an
underground church and tomb built by
General Franciso Franco to honor all
the dead in the Spanish Civil war.
